Next was the art of Hohou, the movement techniques that were taught to shinigami. It was one of the roundabout areas of the shinigami studies. It was essentially one learning footwork and went hand in hand with Zanjutsu and Hakuda. They would teach one to increase their agility and footwork so they would become more proficient at avoiding strikes. Though the teaching itself was simple it was a vital part of any shinigamis studies and as such was an important part of the teachings at the academy. Also included in that, for the most advanced students, shunpou could be learned. It was a high movement speed technique that was used by the shinigami to move faster then one could on foot. It essentially allowed one to move faster then the eye could follow; and when mastered to a higher level could permit the user to cover a massive distance in the blink of an eye. It was truly a powerful technique to have in ones repertoire, it was practically essential. But finally there was the last, but not least, art of the shinigami; Kidou. It was a mastery of ones reiryoku to a different extent. It allowed one to use their raw reiryoku as energy for powerful attacks based out of ones spiritual energy. There were a variety of techniques one could learn of varying difficulty and strength. The more talented one was in the art and the more they learned, the stronger techniques that they could learn. A true master of the art that had learned the full extent of Kidou were said to be incredibly powerful and have access to techniques that could level neighbourhoods with a single blast. The power to destroy on a massive level, a truly frightening thought if the power was to be found in the wrong hands. However, despite how impressive all of these arts were the true feat was to become a master in each of the arts. Those that did tended to become the most talented and reverted shinigami in existence, the Captains of the Gotei Thirteen.
The Captains were the most powerful shinigami in existence and had mastered all of the shinigami arts to an incredibly level. Though not perhaps an actual 'master' in all the arts they had had trained themselves in all of them to a frightening extent. That was ultimately Tenjinsai's goal, to become a Captain of the Gotei Thirteen. He wanted to redeem himself for the sin that he had committed upon entering into this world and let the world see him in a new light. He would become a strong shinigami, a pillar of honor and integrity. That would be how he would redeem himself in the eyes of his family, in the eyes of his father. He would become the greatest shinigami in existence so that his father could look at him and be proud. His first milestone towards that objective was to gain entrance to the shinigami academy. He had marginally trained his abilities while he had been on his own in the rukongai. He had been forced to live a rough life on his own since he was nineteen years old. He had been forced from the estate that his family owned by his father and was told to never return. He had never really been acknowledged as a member of that family either. The only person who was ever really kind to him was his older sister, Amaya. He had been told she was very much like their mother, her kindness and compassion was apparently evidence of that. Though she, like his brother and father could not look at him without thinking of their mother, she still tried to help him. She made life there bareable and kept things between their father and him as calm as possible. Though that usually meant having little to no contact with the man at all. Despite having gone through waht many would consider a horrible upbringing he did not hate his father. He couldn't understand the pain that he must have felt having taken the one that he loved from him. He had never met his mother, though he wished he could have and things had been differently.
But he knew his father was a good man, many people spoke of his benevolence as a powerful and influential shinigami. He was currently the Captain of the Thirteenth Division and had been so since the passing of the previous Captain, Jyuushiro Ukitake. His power was something that was legendary, being one of the most powerful shinigami that was currently within the Gotei Thirteen. He was also well known for keeping a homely attitude within his squad and treating his subordinates with great kindness and compassion. He tended to the plights of his men and pushed them to better themselves. He was also well respected by the other Captains and was well received in most places. Essentially, his father was what he wished to become. It would be a long and arduous road, but he was sure that he could get there. Taking his first steps onto the grounds of the academy he was dazzled by the hustle and bustle of the grounds. Many students moved about heading to their respective classes, huddled into small groups of friends conversing with one another. Tenjinsai's ability to sense was rather weak not having a great deal of training in the arts. His father never like to be around him let alone offer to train him. His brother was the same way, despite not being as cold as his father, had never offered to train him at all in the arts. Putting that aside, he could sense latent power in some of the students around him of varying degrees. Some of them seemed rather strong, others were around his own level of power. He wondered where he would rank amongst the masses. Would be be a powerful student with some sort of natural potential and graduate early. Was he just one of the masses who would have to live their life in obscurity and training their hardest just to make a name for themselves. There would be no way to tell until he was actually exploring his talents. He had to get to the exam hall for the entrance exams today. He could see that it was going to be a crowded reception considering all of the others that he saw in common clothing as well. Anyone who was not dressed in the garbs of the academy was clearly here for the exams.
Many other promising souls who also shared the same ambitions as Tenjinsai. They all wished to become a shinigami for one reason or another. Whether they wanted power, influence, rank, or perhaps their own personal ambitions; they were all here for that one singular goal. Stepping into the exam hall Tenjinsai saw many others like himself sitting upon the varying levels of seating that were in the room. There appeared to be those that had come in groups as well mingling amongst themselves in preparation for the exam. The proctor had not entered the room yet to distribute the exams, most likely waiting for more to arrive before beginning the test. Moving up towards the mid level of the center seating area he took a seat down a few away from a small group of other young souls. There were two males and one female and looked as though they had come from one of the poorer area of the rukongai. They were adorned in rather shabby looking robes that were tattered in places. Their faces had splotches of dirt on them and their hair could use a good cleaning. Granted, he was sure that he didn't exactly look like the cream of the crop either, but his living conditions hadn't been too horrible once he had gotten used to things. The men seemed somewhat, wimpy, if he had to really choose a word for them. It wasn't a particularly nice word but it fit them rather well. They were small and scrawny and the girl that sat between them seemed like she was stronger then either of them. He was saying that from a physical point of view as well which was the strange part. She wasn't overly large either, she was a normal looking female. She appeared to be much shorter then himself by at least half a foot. She was small, very slender, and her body was well accentuated with curves. She wasn't very busty but her body looked quite attractive with what she had. Realizing he had been staring at her for a while now he quickly looked away just as he had gotten her attention with is extended gaze.
He attempted to simply ignore the fact he had just been staring at her and looked down towards the desk where the proctor would sit. He was hoping they would be able to begin the exam soon just to get things underway. Patience wasn't a problem for him but it definitely wasn't his strong suit as well. This was especially true in a situation like this where he was very excited to get things moving along. He wanted to take the exam so he could see if he would pass. He wanted to gain entrance to the exam as soon as possible so he could begin his long road to becoming a shinigami. It was what he wanted most in the world and was eager to get things started. Moments before his anticipation would reach its limits the proctor walked into the exam hall and sat himself down at the front desk. He placed a large stack of papers on the side of the desk as the room grew silent. The man appeared to be rather old most likely having been a teacher for a while. He wore the garb of a teacher which was similar to the academy garb but without the symbols of the academy upon them and instead the Gotei Thirteen. The teachers were all full fledged shinigami that had been asked to teach at the academy due to their talents in, well, teaching. Their proctor had a somewhat long face and was rather thin most likely due to his aging. He had bushy eyebrows and soft eyes that held kindness in them. His eyes were covered by a pair of glasses that were old fashioned and rectangular in shape. He had a small thick mustache that peaked over the left and right sides of his mouth and a small thin beard that fell lightly from the tip of his chin. His hair was short but what he could only describe as, large. It extended upwards for several inches before tufting back down towards his scalp. All of his hair was white as well, another obvious sign of his age beyond his actual appearance. A few moments of silence passed as everyone sat staring down at the proctor wondering what was going to be happening next.
He assumed they would begin the exam soon but it was become rather awkward in the room seeing as nothing had progressed yet. He was sure many were contemplating asking if they would begin the exam soon but nobody had the nerve to actually ask the elderly man. Just as Tenjinsai had bolstered up the courage to stand and ask the mans soft, but booming voice, filled the chamber. "All of you are here today to take the exams to enter the Shinoreijutsuin. I'm sure you all know by now that the exams are very rigorous and only the best will be allowed entrance into the exam. Many of you will not succeed in passing the exam and will be sent away. Some of you will pass and be allowed entrance into the academy and be allowed to attend classes. For a rare few of you as well, you will be placed into the advanced placement group if you show a great deal of potential in the arts. Your knowledge and abilities will reveal where your future will lead you. All I can ask of you young souls is to perform to the best of your abilities." Finishing with his small speech the elderly proctor took up the pile of papers and began to distribute what Tenjinsai presumed to be the exam. In front of each student he placed a small packet of papers that number perhaps ten to fifteen pages and a small sharpened tool to poke out the chosen answer. As the moments passed on Tenjinsai found himself with the proctor before him and having the exam and tool placed before him. He would have to wait until everyone had been given the exam so they could be told to start but he could feel the moment drawing soon. He was eager to begin and prove himself for the skills he possessed. Minutes went by in silence as everyone waited to be given the go ahead for the exam to begin. One by one promising students without an exam faded as the packet of papers started to dot each and every spot in front of the hopeful shinigami.
Finally the exams had been completely passed out and it was time to begin. The proctor slowly made his way back to the front of the room and sat himself down behind the large desk at the head of the hall. "Now, you may all begin your exams. I wish you promising young souls the best of luck." With that the clicking of their pencil like tools against their exams began in large scale. Loud tapping noises echoed throughout the hall as each hopeful made their individual choices that would determine either their successful passing or their failure. Slowly Tenjinsai made his way across the questions answering each and everyone to the best of his ability. Each one had something to do with either the shinigami arts, the history of the Soul Society, and the knowledge of the other spiritual races. Many of the questions would not be known by many people, particularly those pertaining to the other races. Questions were poised about humans, souls, shinigami, and hollows. Those were the races that were publicly acknowledged by the Soul Society. Though, Tenjinsai could say he knew otherwise just from some of the secrets kept in his home. He dare not speak a word of them since he was never meant to know any of them to begin with. If it was made aware to his family that he knew these secrets they would most assuredly not take kindly too it. This was especially true considering they pandered to the leader of the clan, his father. The man had several dark secrets that he kept out of the public eye with only choice members of the family knowing. The only reason he had learned about them was because he had overheard his father and Uncle Hayashi speaking about it. But that was a thought for another time, he had his exam to worry about. He scrolled down the list of questions answering each one as they came along. Certain questions he was very certain of knowing the answer he chose was correct without a second thought. Some of the more basic ones were things like, what was the art used by shinigami that revolved around the use of the zanpaktou for combat. It was obvious that the correct answer was Zanjutsu.
However there were other questions that were rather involved as well that he was questionable about even if he was confident in his answer. Most of the questions pertaining to hollows and humans he had little knowledge of. He had never come in contact with a hollow, or a human for that fact. Humans were only in one realm of existence, the world of the living. It was forbidden for most people to travel there and was essentially an impossibility as well except for the highest ranked individuals. Only people with the rank of Vice Captain or higher could travel to the world of the living on their own authority. The four great noble families could as well seeing as they have their own personal senkaimon in their possession. But anyone other then those select groups were forbidden from travelling there unless given express position from someone of authority. Typically shinigami were sent there on missions or for patrols in a certain sector for periods of time. It was strange for them to ask those who had never been on contact with humans to ask questions about them. Granted, everyone here had once been a human before dying and becoming a soul, but the memories of ones life were never remembered upon dying. It was like starting out fresh with a clean slate and no past to recall. Tenjinsai answered the questions to the best of his ability hoping that he would come out with the correct choice. Only time would tell how he did and hopefully how he did would be well. He drew towards the end of the exam now as he only had a handful left to complete. They were some of the most complex questions he had ever seen that had answers with multiple answers within them. Only the correct series of answers would prove to be right and they were quetsions that he knew little about. The only thing he could do was make an educated guess and hope that he got them right. He was sure that he had passed at least though knowing the majority of what the exams contained. They were all things his sister had taught him while he had been much younger. She had taken to teaching about the soul society and shinigami.
She had always been more of a scholar then a fighter, then her abilities were nothing to dismiss. Amaya preferred not to get involved in combat, another trait he heard she carried from her mother. Her healing skills were incredibly advanced as she was a high ranked officer in the Fourth Division. He was just happy that she had been as kind to him as she had been. He wished his brother had been the same, but Tsunkai very much agreed with the decisions that his father had made. The two were practically joined at the hip considering he was the Third Seat of his fathers squad. Their personalities weren't too much alike though, with Tsunkai begin a great deal more brash and arrogant then their father was. But he had been told that he acted the same way that their father did when he was younger. It made sense to him, which was somewhat amusing to him. But he had also been told that he himself was very much like his father despite their appearances not being too much alike. Sighing out loud, Tenjinsai realized he had just made what was essentially the only noise that had been made the entire time other then a few coughs and sneezes. Being slightly embarrassed he placed his tool and exam done having just completed it. Now the only thing left to do was to wait until everyone else had finished so the proctor could grade their exams. He had a feeling that they may be there a while as he graded each individual exam. This was especially true since each one was composed of roughly two hundred questions. It was going to be a very long and boring day but the anticipation of getting into the academy was more then enough to balance that. Minutes went by as the last few student hopefuls finished up their exams and placed their tool and packet down. Upon seeing that everyone had finished the exam the proctor stood up from behind his desk and went through the rows one by one collecting the exams. "If you would all pass your exams to the ends of your rows it will make the collection easier for me. I will be grading your exams once they are all collected so I would ask you all remain in the hall until I have finished."
Passing his exam off to the right he watched as stacks of paper moved all around the room finding their way to the ends of each row the test takers sat within. It took several minutes for all the exams to be collected but finally they were and the proctor returned to the desk at the head of the hall. One by one the large group of young souls watched the elderly man grade the exams and moved them to either the left or right side of his desk. It was clear that one side was those that passed and one side was those that failed. The only problem was not knowing which one was which. Granted, nobody had any way of knowing which exam was there own so even just watching the placement of the exams offered no sort of relief to getting an answer. Seconds, minutes, hours went by as each exam was individually graded and sorted into one of the two piles. Finally the last exam was being graded and it was clear everyone was getting antsy. They wanted to know if they had passed or failed, gained entrance or would be turned away. It was an incredibly stressful situation that had each and every one of them on the edge of their seats. Gripping the sides of the bottom of his chair tightly in his hands he waited to see which pile he had been sorted into. He just wanted to pass, thats all he wanted to hear. He didn't even care if he had managed to make it into the AP classes, he just wanted to pass. It was the first step towards realizing his dreams and he could help but be anxious. The proctor finally placed the last test into the pile on the left and then slowly stood up from his chair. Placing down the ink brush he had been using to grade them he straightened out his shihakushou and picked up the pile of exams on the right side of his desk. One by one he sorted through the exams and called out names asking each individual to come to the front of the room. Each soul stood up and stepped forward to the front of the room presenting themselves in a line before the proctor. More then half of the group was standing before him and Tenjinsai was starting to get nervous. He was assuming that this group was those that had passed the exam and would be allowed entrance into the academy.
Every moment that went by Tenjinsai's heart would beat a little faster, a little harder, his blood pressure slowly increasing. He could feel himself beginning to sweat as each name called out was not his own. Getting to the final exam on the pile the proctor called out one more name that was not his own. A feeling of despair opened up in the pit of his stomach as he began to think that he had not passed the exams. Had he failed the test despite how sure of himself he was. Perhaps he was not actually cut out to be a shinigami and only thought that he had what it took. He could feel this anxiety welling up through his body as he began to fear that his future was nothing but a black hole that he could not escape. His mind was snapped out of this fear though as he heard the proctor speak only a few simple phrases that reassured him immensely. "Unfortunately for those standing before me you have all failed the exam. I am sorry to have to tell you this but the group before me now will not be admitted into the academy. Please continue to study and learn more so you may attempt to take the exam again. I believe all of you has the potential to become a shinigami, you just need to gain more wisdom first. You are dismissed." The rather large group had a mixed number of responses ranging from uncaring apathy to full blown breakdowns. Several men and women actually broke down into tears as they made their way out of the exam hall most likely having had their hopes and dreams crushed by the news. They would be allowed to take the exam again though, as many times as they wanted in fact. They would just have to learn more and try harder the next time they took it. But still, it must have been rough to be told that you just didn't have what it took to become a shinigami. This was especially true since everyone that was here truly wanted to become one. Twisting his face into a look of contemplation he was pulled out of his thoughts when the proctor began to call out names once more. One by one the young souls moved to the front of the room and presented themselves to the proctor.
It was clear that this group had at the very least passed the exam and Tenjinsai was confident he would be in this group. He was looking forward to having his name called by as the seconds went by he was beginning to grow nervous once again. The pile of exams was growing thin and his name had still not been called out yet. The majority of those that still remained in the room had been called forward with only perhaps a dozen people still seated. Looking about at the others in the room it was clear they were also somewhat disheveled by not having their names called yet either but had some sort of confidence that they hadn't failed. Perhaps they were actually going to be the advanced placement group, the creme de la creme. At least that was what Tenjinsai was hoping would happen. He wasn't sure if he could handle being turned away from the academy or something even worse as he was starting to get paranoid about. Finally the last of the owners of the exams had been called out leaving the small group of a dozen sitting in the large hall. About a third of the original group was now standing before the proctor presenting themselves for their answer. "You have all managed to pass the exam and will be admitted into the Shinoreijutsuin. Congratulations on making your first milestone on the way to becoming a shinigami. You may head to the admissions office to get your class schedules, uniforms, and dorm assignment if you do not have a family to stay with. Dismissed." This group was decidedly more upbeat about their answer considering it was a positive one. They had managed to pass the exam and would be allowed entrance into the academy. They had succeeded in fulfilling the first step of their dream to become a shinigami and would be allowed to take the next step on the path. Granted, there was no guarentee all of them would graduate from the academy but at least they would have the opportunity to try. But still that left the rest of them to face whatever fate had been deemed to them by the proctor.
As soon as the last group that had been graded left the room the proctor turned around and placed his hand over the desk. "Dispel." As soon he spoke those words a stack of exams had appeared in the center of his desk which shocked each of the remaining souls in the room. They had never seen him even hide it let alone knew how he did it. Perhaps this was one of the various kidou spells that the shinigami could learn. Either way, there had to have been a reason that he hid the last stack of exams from the others. Perhaps since they were the only ones left they were indeed the advanced placement group. They were the best of the best having the highest grades amongst the entire group of test takers. This would become all the more apparent as the proctor addressed those who remained in the hall. "You fourteen individuals scored the highest amongst all those that took the exam. You will be moved into the advanced placement group that houses the most talented of the students here. You all have a bright future here at the academy and assuredly the Seireitei. I have no doubt in my mind this group will be great shinigami some day." The small group stood up one by one and moved up to the front of the room and bowed before the proctor for his kind words. They were ecstatic as well having managed to not only pass the exam but also make their way to the advanced placement group. They were the best and apparently had the most potential out of everyone that took the test. He had never thought himself to have particularly great talents in the shinigami arts. Perhaps he just had a great deal of latent potential that was yet to be tapped into? Either way he was happy to accept the gift he had been given and would perform to the best of his ability to fulfill his dreams. After bowing to the proctor the small group began to walk out of the room but Tenjinsai heard his name called out by the proctor. "Tenjinsai Bushinji, could you stay here for just a moment. I would like to speak with you in private." "Of course Sensei." Slightly confused but more then accomodating Tenjinsai separated himself from the group of AP students and moved to the front of the proctors desk.
Once everyone had left the room the elderly man began to speak to him with a surprising familiarity. "Your name, it is one that is well known throughout the Soul Society, especially the Seireitei. Your father is quite the famous individual, as was your grandfather. I dare say your siblings are starting to make quite a name for themselves as well. Could I assume you will end up doing the same?" Tenjinsai paused for a moment as he took in everything the man had said. It wasn't too startling that he knew who his family was, they were a very famous noble clan that had many of its members dug deep into the ranks of the Gotei Thirteen. The only thing that startled him was that he knew of his grandfather, a man that he, or his siblings, had never met. He had been told his grandfather was around during the founding of the Gotei Thirteen and was the first Captain of the Tenth Division. He had then later been allowed to 'retire' though he had no real idea what that could have meant. He had never met him and the man had never presented himself around the estate while he was there. Perhaps this elderly man was much older then he could have imagined. "Well, I do indeed plan on making something of myself to make my family proud. But, if I may be bold enough to ask, how do you know who my grandfather is? I have never met him myself and neither have my brother or sister." The proctor leaned back in his chair gently and laughed lightly for a moment. "I assumed as much, your father hardly knew the man as well. He had been retired when Tenkai was still just a boy leaving him in the care of your grandmother and later on role model. I was friends with your grandfather when he was still the Captain of Squad Ten. He was a great man and I'm sure still is to this day." This was astounding to Tenjinsai to have met someone who not only knew his grandfather, but had apparently also known his father when he was still very young. He had many questions that he wanted to ask but the most prominent of them was who this man was.
"I'm sorry to be so rude Sensei but, who are you exactly that you know my family so well?" Waving his hand in dismissal the proctor stood up and straightened out his shihakushou once more. "It's quite alright Tenjinsai, I've always been quite open with my students. My name is Jirou Takahashi, I was once a high ranking shinigami in the Kidou Corps when I became a teacher here. Your grandfather and I were good friends during our time in service of the Gotei Thirteen. Once I became a teacher though I eventually ended up serving as your fathers Kidou instructor of which he was quite talented at. I can honestly say as well, by looking at your test scores, you hold even more potential then he does. I must say to not take that comment lightly either considering how prominent of a shinigami your father is. I hope you are quite proud of the abilities you possess." He was stunned once more at the words of his man. He had known his grandfather many many years ago, most likely before his father was ever born. More then that he had served as his fathers kidou instructor when he had attended the academy and even moreso then that had said that he had greater potential as a shinigami then even his father did. How could so much of such a wild nature possibly be true. It was too incredible to believe it all but here he was being faced with it right before his very eyes. Perhaps this was all destined to be to help him along his way to becoming a shinigami. Did the fates want him to truly make a name for himself? One way or another someone was looking out for him and wanted him to truly achieve greatness as a shinigami. "I see, that is quite, incredible. Thank you for your words Takahashi-sensei, its very kind of you to say. I will do my best to live up to my families name as well as the expectations you have of me. I will become a great shinigami one day, even greater then my father. I want him to look at me with pride and call me his son." Putting a hand on the young boys head Takahashi patted the top of his head lightly and then pointed off towards the hallway. "Well off with you now, you have a big change ahead of you. You are formally a member of the Shinoreijutsuin, a student of the academy. I would suggest taking your first day to familiarize yourself with the campus and look at your dorm assignment. Best of luck to you Tenjinsai, I'll see you in kidou class tomorrow."
Waving the young boy off Tenjinsai happily left the exam hall and headed to the admissions hall. He needed to get his official academy uniform, class assignment, and his dorm assignment. He had a lot to get used to but he was so happy that nothing could bother him. He had gotten accepted into the academy and he was as happy as can be. Making his way down the halls he quickly made his way to the admissions office and stepped inside behind a large crowd of other students. Most of them were others that had also passed the exam session that he had just been in. They were all trying to get their necessary papers and uniforms so they could check out their own schedules and dorm themselves. Everyone was eager to get used to their new life in the academy, it was incredibly exciting. One by one the newly dubbed students got their information and uniforms and ran off happily to go and see their new arrangements. This place would be their new home, they would live here, eat here, and learn here. There was really no reason to leave the academy grounds unless one was going with their class to learn elsewhere or was visiting their family outside of the academy. He knew that some people opted out of living at the dorms as well if they had a home to stay at with their family. If he had been welcome at the estate then he most likely would have stayed there instead of the academy and just commuted there everyday. But, unfortunately his father did not particularly enjoy his presence for reasons he knew well enough so he would stay at the academy dorms. He was sure they were suited out well enough for all of the students needs. Perhaps some of the more pampered individuals that came from noble families would have some issues, but they would have to deal with their needs not being completely met. But he didn't want to make the assumption that everyone from a noble home was a pampered spoiled child. He had come from a noble home after all even though he lived most of his life so far in the rukongai. Perhaps he couldn't really be counted due to that fact.
Slowly but surely the room cleared out and finally Tenjinsai could get to the front of one of the lines to get his own information. "Name?" "Tenjinsai Bushinji." The man behind the counter began to sort through the files that were underneath the desk looking for what he assumed was his own file. Upon locating what he assumed was the correct file he pulled out a grouping of papers and placed them on the counter. "One moment please." The man then stood up and walked towards the back of the office and opened up a box. He assumed that the box contained various uniforms of various sizes for the students at the academy. He already knew that he would be given a blue one since those were given to the males. The red uniforms were given to the female students of the academy. After a few moments of rooting through the box the man came back with a large blue uniform that he placed to the side of the papers. "These papers are your dorm assignment and class assignment. Familiarize yourself with them as you will most likely begin your classes tomorrow. This uniform is what you will wear while you are at the academy. Right now all students are provided with one but once the exam season has ended all students will be given extra uniforms to wear. Until then keep this one clean and presentable for class. You are dismissed." "Thank you sir." Taking his papers and uniform Tenjinsai left the office and stood in the hallway dumbfounded. Now that he actually thought about it he had no idea where he was and had no idea where to go. He figured the first thing he would do was to head to the dorms and get himself settled in. He wanted to change into his academy uniform as soon as he could but perhaps he would bath first. He didn't want to put on his brand new uniform while he was still sweaty and dirty. Now he just had to figure out how to get there so he could actually take the bath that he needed to. Looking around the halls like a misguided child he happened to see the same group of three students that he had sat near earlier. Glancing over at them he caught the eye of the woman that was in there group.
Peering over at him she smiled and began to walk towards him. He wasn't sure what to do, he had never been particularly good at talking to girls. Just act normally he continued to tell himself as she closed the gap between them step by step. He began to grow more nervous as the two men she had been with were now looking over this way as well rather quizzically. Gulping down a breath the woman was now standing before him with a bright smile on her face and a kind smile in her eyes. "Hello there. I noticed you looking over at me before while we were getting ready to take the exams." "Ah, yes, I'm uh, sorry about t-that. I was just looking around and before I-I noticed it I was, uh, was staring at y-you." The young girl giggled lightly and covered her mouth with the back of her hand as she laughed. Despite how she looked she had manners that were well beyond his own and probably beyond anyone in his family despite their noble heritage. Either that or she was simply being bashful due to the unusual yet flattering comment that he had chosen to made. Moving her hand from her mouth she moved them down near her abdomen and clasped them together. She smiled warmly at him and introduced himself. "Thank you, it's nice to formally meet you then. My name is Ami Koizumi." She produced a light bow as Tenjinsai quickly followed with the same and then introduced himself to her as well. "It's a pleasure to meet you as well. My n-name is Tenjinsai Bushinji." At the mention of his name the young woman quickly shot up from the bow with a look of both confusion and excitement upon her face. Raising an eyebrow Tenjinsai thought that he may have said something that he might not have wanted to. "You said your family name was Bushinji? Are you by chance related to the Third Seat of Squad Thirteen, Tsunkai Bushinji?" Tenjinsai internally groaned as he heard the woman mention the name of his elder brother. He wished he could say that this was the first time someone had asked him this question but it was not.
There were many young girls that went all googly eyed over the mention of his brothers name. He was a rather talented young officer that had quickly made a name for himself in the Gotei. The fact that he had risen to the rank of Third Seat in what was a very short period of time was rather impressive. Most people attributed this to the fact that his father was the Captain of his squad but it couldn't be more false. If anything that simply meant that their father put even more stringent judgment on Tsunkai to get him to perform to the best of his ability. The fact that he had been rewarded as much as he had was proof alone that he had been performing extraordinarily. Along with that he was quite the looker and the girls were quickly drawn to him due to his bachelor status. If one tagged the fact that he was of a high noble standing as well it made him one of the most elegible bachelors in the Seireitei. Nodding slowly and somewhat begrudgingly Tenjinsai responded to Ami's question. "Yes, Tsunkai is my elder brother. I haven't spoken to him in sometime though so, I can't really tell you much if you have questions." Ami's face twisted slightly to the side at the answer but her smile quickly returned after a few moments of what he believed to be contemplation. "It's alright, I'm just a fan of his I guess you could say. He's quite popular with the ladies I'm sure you know by now." She giggled once again as Tenjinsai nodded once more in accordance with the question she had asked. He had kind of grown accustomed to being asked these questions. He honestly sometimes wished he just didn't use his full name and just his first. But still he had pride in where he came from even if his family wasn't proud that he was one of them. "Yes, I'm rather well aware. I can't say you are the first person that has asked me that question. Many young woman are interested in asking me questions about him when they learn I am his younger brother." Ami smiled once more but in a more lack luster manner most likely sensing the somewhat irritation behind the thought. It wasn't that he wanted attention instead of just getting asked questions about his brother; more the fact that he didn't like discussing things about his family for obvious reasons.
"I'm sorry if I came on too strong, I just got excited for a moment." She crossed her arms over her chest as if she was thinking for a moment about the whole situation. He could see the cogs turning as she slowly put the pieces together one by one building a picture of the entire scenario. She quickly pointed a hand out towards him with an apparent realization of who he was in retrospect. "If you're a member of the Bushinji clan and Tsunkai's brother then you're descended from the main branch. That means that you are Captain Bushinji's son as well right?" "You would indeed be correct in that statement, he is indeed my father. Though, I haven't seen him in some time either I must say." Ami immediately got a look upon her face that could be described as awed and amazed. It was clear that she had just realized that he himself was technically born from very high stock of nobility. Well, not technically, he was of very high nobility as far as anyone else was concerned. The only technical point was the one in his mind of his own families stand point on his existence. He had never been forced to deny his existence as a member of their family. He was a Bushinji, everyone accepted this and allowed it to be. He was just not welcomed amongst the household of the rest of his family. He still reaped all the benefits of the name despite having to endure hardships that most people of such status would never even have to gaze upon. But he didn't want to bring down the situation by looking depressed. He was often easy to read as far as what he was feeling though explaining why he was feeling that way was a much more difficult subject. "I see, well, that's rather impressive being such a high ranking noble. I'm sure you must be proud of your families accomplishments." She smiled once again cocking her head slightly to the right trying to change the topic somewhat. "Yes, my family is rather well known for producing good stock. They're all rather incredible people and I hope I can make something of myself as well."
She nodded enthusiastically but stopped when one of the two men that was with her called out. Apparently they were getting ready to leave to look at their arrangements. "Ami come on, we have to get going so we can get ready for tomorrow." "Alright, coming!!" She turned back around to face Tenjinsai and placed her hands over one of his grasping it lightly. "It was nice to meet you Tenjinsai; hopefully we'll see more of each other during classes." "Likewise. I'll see you around then." Smiling at one another and then bowing, Ami ran off with her two companions to go off and most likely look at their classes and dorm assignment. It would probably be a good idea for him to do the same all things considered. He still had no real idea of where anything was here at the academy seeing as it was his first time there. It only came as an after thought that perhaps he should have asked Ami or the others if they knew the layout of the building. Granted, they had just passed the exams like he had but still there was a chance maybe they had been there before. Shrugging, he would have to figure things out for himself by just wandering around and getting to know the place. He was sure he would figure it out in due time and have some form of leeway for his first week or two. Surely the newly inducted students couldn't learn the layout of the rather large academy in a single day. They weren't given a map as far as he knew so they had to all just figure things out by, what he assumed was, wandering around and learning the layout. Still holding his uniform and papers Tenjinsai wandered off into the academy hoping to locate the dorms. He just wanted to find out where they were so he could see him room. He had his room assignment and even class assignment on the sheets. The problem was that he had no idea where anything was so he had no way of locating where they were unless he actually stumbled upon them. Sighing loudly, Tenjinsai wandered through the halls of the academy, his sheet with dorm and class assignment out as reference. If he happened upon one of his classes he felt that it would be good for him to stop and go inside to see it. He needed to make a mental note of where things were in reference to the front gates so he could find them again.
Right now he had gone down the main hall from the admissions office and exam hall so he was still on the 'main strip'. Taking a left at the first intersection he saw a long stretching hallway that opened up into a courtyard at the end of it. There were several classes of which were labeled with a number and letter signifying what class it was. He would see 1A, 2A, 3A, so on and so forth. There were about five classes on each side of the hall that were numbered oppositely and went back and forth. Classroom one would be on his left, two on the right, three on the left and it continued on until the end of the hall. At the end of the hall it opened up into a sort of open courtyard area that still resembled a hall to some degree. There were small pagoda pillars that held a wooden roof between them with open sidings. It was essentially an open air hallway that had dojos that probably served as training classrooms. He had already realized by this point that part of the academy was actually learning from a book and gaining knowledge about the arts. Then, once they had gotten a grasp of the understanding, they would learn the actual arts themselves. Wandering past the two dojos that stretched along the open walkway he followed the path and turned to the right along the winding stone patterned path. It led past the side of one of the dojos and stretched down towards the back of the academy. In the far distance he could see what looked to be a large open field like area surrounded by high walls with only one end open. There were targets that were set up at the end of several long lanes some of which had scorch marks on it. It had to have been some sort of training field, perhaps for that of kidou usage. He was sure he would find himself there at some point, most likely tomorrow if he had to take a guess. But for now it wasn't of too much importance other then just making a note of where it was. Continuing down the path and cutting the distance between himself and training field in half he took a right and headed back towards the central compound of the academy. He found himself in front of a building after walking for roughly a minute that was connected to the edge of the academy.
It didn't appear that the building itself was actually connected internally to the academy but just structurally attached. Stepping up to the doors of the building he moved through the open doors and took a look around. The layout was similar to the inside of the academy with long hallways littered with doors along the sides of the hallways. The difference here however was that there were a great deal more rooms littered along the sides of the halls then in the academy itself. The rooms were most likely much smaller then the classrooms, perhaps some kind of private lesson rooms for the advanced placement students? The hustle and bustle of the building seemed to deny that theory though as he walked through the halls of the building. Taking a right down one of the intersections he gazed into one of the rooms as he passed by and recognized it as being somewhat, homey. Perhaps he had managed to make his way into the academy dorms without even realizing it. The room had several people inside of it and furnishings that he would not consider indicative of a classroom. Looking down at his sheet of paper he located the listing of his dorm room number, E-16. He had no idea what that could possibly mean but if he just wandered the halls and tried to gain some sort of idea from the other rooms perhaps he could locate his own. Currently he was moving through rooms that were labeled with W before the letter. He had a theory though he was unsure if it was correct or not. Perhaps the letter indicated the part of the building they were located in. It could have been separated by cardinal direction to give some form of structure to the building and make it easier to locate the rooms. If he was in the W or west area, then he would have to turn around and go the opposite way to get to the E, or east area. Turning around from the hallway he was in he returned from wence he came and went down the opposite hall at the intersection he had turned down previously. As he moved through the hall he recognized the rooms as still being labeled as W but the numbers were getting lower.
He was also finding himself getting closer to another intersection that might have actually been the cardinal center of the building. Upon moving into the intersection he found himself maneuvering past a group of students that had taken up mingling in the midst of the area to get to the opposite end of the crossed paths. Upon moving to the opposite end of the hall he was glad to see that the first dorm room he stumbled upon was labeled E-1. He was in the right area now at least he just had to figure out where his own room was now. Passing by room after room he came across yet another intersection and stopped for a moment. It was clear he was in the east sector now but he was unsure of which direction he should go in to get to his actual room. He wasn't sure how the numbering of the rooms worked so if he continued forward it might not go up to sixteen. Deciding to take a left instead of continuing forward he wandered off down yet another hallway dodging students as throngs of both new and old academy cadets wandered the halls from their rooms. The first room he stumbled upon was labeled E-12, he was in the right area, or at least he hoped he was. He would know soon enough as he looked around at both sides of the hall to see how the rooms were numbered. It seemed they were in the same set up as the classrooms changing from left to right going up one number at a time. Thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, there it was, sixteen. His room was the third room on the right side of the wall from the cardinal center of the building. From where he came in he went up one hallway, took a left, went down another hallway to the next intersection, and then took a left. He would have to remember that for future reference so he would remember how to get to his dorm room, especially amongst the confusion. Sighing, he grabbed hold of the handle to his room and slid the door open then stepping into the room. It was rather small with two beds on opposite ends of the room, two desks, two chairs, a small closet, a very tiny kitchen, and then a single bathroom. By the appearance of the room it was clear that they were meant to have roommates which led him to wonder who his roommate would be.
Perhaps Ami would end up being his roommate, or perhaps it would be one of her two companions. It could be anyone honestly, but he at least knew it would be one of the newly entranced students. It would be strange to place first year students with those who had been there longer. But then again he didn't know how things here worked so there was no real way for him to tell who would end up walking through that door. For the time being though he could use a good bath and rest before wandering about the academy again to try and figure out where his classes were. Claiming the right side of the room, Tenjinsai placed his uniform on the bed and his assignment papers on the desk near the bed. Moving into the small bathroom he shut the sliding door behind him and gazed around at the tiny room. It was a standard bathroom that was meant for a single individual. There was a square wooden tub that was about five by five and it could comfortably house one person if they were sitting down. There was already water inside it and it actually look clean. Did they prepare the rooms for the new students already or was his roommate already here earlier today? Whatever the cause the bath was full and ready to go. He just needed to place a few pieces of wood in the furnace to get the water heated up. Taking five logs he placed them into the furnace one by one stacking them up like a pyramid without a top. Grabbing the flint and stone that were atop the furnace he knelt down in front of the opening and struck it repeatedly until one of the pieces of wood began to smoke. Slowly but surely it began to smoke more and more as the heat inside increased and eventually the small cut log caught fire. As the fire spread inside the furnace and the other small logs began to catch fire he shut the door to the furnace and sealed that latch that kept the panel shut. Stripping down and folding his clothes into a neat pile near the door of the bathroom he slid himself into the tub and relaxed as the water slowly began to heat up. Stretching his arms out behind him on the edge of the tub he let his head lean back and look up towards the ceiling as he relaxed in his bath.
He wondered what kind of life he would have here at the academy. He had scored very well on the test and was apparently of immense potential. Would he be one of the rare prodigies that came out of the academy and graduate within a year or two. Would he fail to meet the expectation that had been laid out for him and end up going the full curriculum. Maybe he would even not actually make the cut and fail to pass the graduation exams when they came around. There was no way for him to really know what was going to happen here. All he could truly do was to try his best and perform to the best of his abilities. He would become a great shinigami one day and he would do everything in his power to make that happen. He couldn't doubt himself, he had to have completely confidence in everything that he did. This was his chance to truly make his dreams come true. He would make his family, and his father, proud. He would become a greater shinigami then even his father was so that one day he could look upon him and not think of what had happened when he was born and see what a great man he had become.
